SIS 94 Government EV charging strategies and plans – are we doing the right things?
Information
Session Organiser: Tron Hovland, ITS Norway, Norway
Governments have developed policies or initiated implementation programs to prepare and motivate the market for the continued conversion of fleets to zero-emission vehicles. With an expected ban on the purchase of new fossil-fuel vehicles these policies can facilitate a massive rollout of EVs. For the average private car owner, the electric vehicle and charging ecosystem needs to be as convenient and user-friendly as for petrol-based cars—or even better.
In addition to political incentives, the challenges to further success relate to local demand for charging stations, capacity in the power grid, access to renewable power and storage, and more user-friendly charging solutions. How are Governments and local authorities meeting this challenge, and are we on the right track?
This topic involves two major sectors, energy and transport, and thus requires knowledge and cooperation from different communities of experts. To make it work for the user, it is also necessary to have a profound understanding of ITS. The panellists are involved in helping authorities develop policies and monitor development and implementation in their countries and regions. They can comment from an ITS perspective, where the user services are essential to accelerate the uptake of EVs.
