In 2023, the British Standards Institution published “Enabling the development of inclusive standards. Understanding the role of data and data analysis. Guide.” This guide along with other resources discussing data bias (e.g., Caroline Criado Perez’s book: Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men), highlight the need to recognize and address "how biases can change the way data are interpreted and incorporated into decision-making processes; how data can introduce bias or exclusion into the standards development process; and the impacts of data bias or exclusion and the communities affected." This session will explore how the ITS industry is addressing data bias, particularly in light of the increasing use of artificial intelligence.
