Session Organiser: Stéphanie Chaufton, TISA - Traveller Information Services Association, Belgium Drivers are now accustomed to high-quality traffic information both for overall route optimization as well as for turn-by-turn guidance. However, when it comes to safety-related traffic information (SRTI), such as for accidents or the start of a traffic jam on motorways in low-visibility situations, it can quickly become a matter of life or death. A high-quality data input is as important as accurate location, timely warning, and careful choice of what is safety-related and what is just convenience information. Taking the concept one step further, SRTI becomes a virtual extension of the passive (crash impact minimizing) and active (crash avoidance) features of a vehicle. In this session, experts from various stakeholders along the traffic information value chain elaborate the potential of SRTI as a logical next step in the overall safety conception and hence becoming part of the overall safety rating of a vehicle. For that, the quality of SRTI becomes of utmost importance for the overall concept to work with many organizations.
