Connected vehicle data has emerged as a transformative technology for road transportation and infrastructure projects, offering unique opportunities for improved safety, efficiency, and resilience. By 2027, it’s estimated there will be over 300 million connected vehicles across the globe. Such an expansive scale could disrupt the way we approach transportation and infrastructure challenges, the questions we ask, and the speed at which we solve them.

This presentation will cover some of the applications for Connected Vehicle data and what this emerging technology could mean for Transport Professionals across a broad range of teams, modes, and use cases. However, the successful implementation of connected vehicle data faces several challenges. The compatibility, data latency, and interoperability of different vehicle types and infrastructure systems need to be addressed to ensure seamless data exchange. We aim to highlight the key benefits and challenges associated with its implementation, and what this might mean for transportation planners now and into the not-so-distant future.
